Adams Speedline FAST 10 Review

Adams is the Nicholas Sparks of golf club manufacturers, coming out with new clubs at breakneck speed, and their newest offering comes out of their Speedline series. The Adams Speedline Fast 10 Driver is designed with the smooth swinger in mind, and when matched up with that even tempo, you’ll need to hire a spotter. This stick can throw the bombs.

The Speedline Fast 10 will not wow anyone sitting in the bag. The graphics on the sole are K-Mart worthy and the head profile is pretty traditional, but did you want admiration at the cart or on the tee? You’ll want to keep a sock on its head anyway, so who cares?

Available with four different loft angles, 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 12.5, and two different shaft materials, Aldila Wasabi graphite (you know that’s hot!) and Matrix HD graphite, there is enough choice to get the ball flight and stiffness you want. The head is extremely light and aerodynamically nearly invisible, increasing club head speed, though producing little feedback at impact.

So why does this Adams Driver favor the smooth swinger over the grip-it-and-rip-it set? Because with a 46”-shaft length, control equals yards, baby, and yards are what it’s all about. Adams claims this club will add up to 15-yards over your next best option, but fifteen yards deeper in the woods isn’t a great benefit. The club produces a straight and high flight path, but it’s up to you to put it in the right direction.

Claims to fame? Well, in a Sports Illustrated evaluation, no less than Tom Watson fell in love with the club. Ok, he’s supposed to, he's an Adams spokesman, but word is the Fast 10 left the session in his bag. The Speedline series also swept the 2009 World Long Drive Championship, so maybe their distance claims aren’t too far off the mark.

At under $300, this club won’t require you to win a tour event before you can afford it. If you’re after performance before appearance, Adams just might have your 2010 big stick.
